Chapter 9

Thursday morning and I am now starting the last 7 days of my visit. The funeral yesterday ended up being an all day thing as I did not get home until 4PM. Mom and Dad did not go to the cemetary so I traveled with Fran and Dan and Nancy, my school buddies.

The majority of the people at the church did follow on to the cemetery so there was a long line of cars from the church to Holy Cross cemetery which is in the next suburb along called Colma. It is an old and very large cemetery and has been THE catholic cemetery for San Francisco and surrounds for many years. There are some famous people buried there and there is an older area with lots of above ground crypts. Some families in South City bought crypts years ago and everyone was saying how no one today would be able to afford the stone work that went into those crypts.

The cemetery was followed by a gathering at one of the family houses in San Mateo with a very extensive luncheon, which was good. It was a lot of fun and it was just great to be able to be there for Cynthia.

We are running into so many people, lots of the old ones especially, so this has been fun. Linda is kind of a celebrity in this town as Mom and Dad's daughter but also in her own right. Last night Linda and Michelle and I went to Bertoluccis for dinner and that was a lot of fun too. Michelle says you can never go there without Linda running into many people who want to talk to her. There was a crowd of old ones there for Betty Bertoldi's 80th birthday. Everyone thinks there is something about So City that has allowed people to live long and active lives. This was a big topic of conversation at the funeral too. Everyone decided that the So City weather, which everyone always complains about, must play some part in this phenomenon.

The So City girls have organised themselves for a get together on Saturday and it sounds like it will be a cast of thousands going to Napa/Sonoma where Fran and Dan Weber live. They have babysitting duties that day for 4 of their 6 grandchildren and it is really the only day available for the others. So we are all travelling up there. It will be wives and partners and the Behrend kids want to come along as well.

Uncle Mike comes back from Chicago tonight. They saw three Giants games there, I think only one which was a win, 1-0, but their name got pulled out of a draw for a $2300 prize. They made friends with a Limmo driver who ended up meeting them somewhere for drinks. They ate bad food and had a great time.

You are probbly waiting for the next set of photos. I do have some to upload but cannot seem to find the way to do it on the apple, which is what I have started to use. So i have to move the photos to the small one and load them up. Will try to do this after posting but i think my bathroom slot may be coming up.

More soon.
