Chapter 5
last night at the Giant's Game there was a special shirt give away. The shirt was orange and featured the number and name of the Giant's rookie Buster Posey, 23 years old from Florida, who is a new favourite. They only had so many shirts to give away so if you wanted one you had to arrive early and get in line. Linda and I had a beer first but then got in line and managed to get our shirts just before they ran out. I will probably leave my shirt behind as I suspect that it will have more outings here than if I took it home.
Well Day in the Park has come and gone. Day in the Park was divided into 3 areas, the farmer’s market, the community stalls and the food. Noni and I were down there very early to look for good tomatoes at the Farmer’s market. We did not stay long as there were not too many people around at that time. We came home and noni cooked some of the tomatoes in a frying pan with olive oil until they cooked down to just a small sauce then she put in 3 beaten eggs. We shared that for breakfast with toast. Very good.
Later that morning Krista came back and picked us up and we went back down. I only got a few photos today because my camera switch is sticking and not switching on all the time. But I did get a good one of Noni and her cousin Mary Uberti and Mary’s friend Norma. They are 88, 82 and 80 respectively.
I have to say most of the action was around the food. One of the food stalls was Tri-tip steak sandwiches and they were going out faster than they could make them, even though the stall had around 10 workers. Another stall was selling Spam burgers! I did not try these. We did manage to run into some of the old So City people here around the food stalls, including Eddie Bonanno and John Penna and that was fun. And everyone comments on Noni and Gramps, how they go to everything and how good they look for their age.
I spent the afternoon with Auntie Lindy and Uncle Mike watching the kids in their backyard. Dinner was at Noni and Gramps’s house, Viola Madrid’s tamales and pork with Viola’s famous chile on top. This was not to Gramp’s liking so he had the left over half of the Tri-tip sandwich.
Tomorrow we are back at the Martinellis for a big do. A few other people are coming along. You may have noticed that I have not yet mentioned Tony and Michelle because I have not seen them yet, except for seeing Tony from our seat in the stadium when he came out to do the grounds work during innings. Michelle has been travelling and is not back until Monday and Tony has just been working. But I suspect I will see them this week.
