Chapter 6

Sunday was a big day that started with a long walk which I really needed. Noni and Gramps went off to mass and I got collected by Linda and spent the rest of the day with her. This included a visit to Krista’s new little house, shopping at Trader Joes, Costco and Safeway and a quick run through the Martinelli’s old house on Magnolia which is up for sale and was having an open house.
The Costco experience is, as always, pretty amazing. The shopping trolleys are huge because you have to buy in bulk so the cart gets filled up really fast. For instance, the package of toilet paper roles she bought had around 40 rolls in there. But they buy it and share it around. The prices are good so I can see why people come here. But as always you probably buy things you don’t really need because the prices are so good.
By the time we got home Krista and Marla and the boys had already returned from the Giant’s game and it was time to start cooking dinner. We had chicken roasted with potatoes and carrots, very nice lamb chops, a salad and some very nice pan fried veggies. The whole dinner could have come out of my kitchen! The leg lamb chops she bought were, of course, Australian lamb and the price looked similar to what we are paying now, but they were very trimmed and cut double, that is two bones per chop, so there were very thick.
Last night I also had the apple notebook going with a slide show of two sets of photos, the ones I have taken so far since I have been here, many of which you have all been looking at on the blog, and then the home set I compiled which includes that last ones I took before leaving home, new ones of the big E from Sara and the ones Katie sent before I left. So this was fun. Everyone is swept away by all the kids.
Today I may have to invest in a new camera because my on-off switch has died. I am going to have one go of opening it up with noni’s little screw driver set but if this does not work I am going to have to buy a new one as I will go crazy if I have to watch those great photo opportunities go by for the rest of the trip.
This morning Noni has been making Biscotti and Amaretti as they have their monthly Historical Society night tonight and everyone brings something. They told me I did not have to go but I think I will anyway, especially if I have my new camera.
